Recruitment fair at Samiedu was a success, work and people do find each other
Dozens of job seekers and employers filled Samiedu’s Paussi canteen at the Recruitment Fair in January. The day was a success and people queued in at the main entrance of Samiedu. Students were selling their skills to companies for the upcoming summer season and companies showcased their own activities as employers. Almost sixty exhibitors signed up.
– This is the first time we have participated in the Recruitment Fair, and it’s really busy, says JP-Set’s Managing Director Tuomo Kyttälä, pleased with the event.
– Our company operates in the metal sector and we have recently employed students, mainly on apprenticeships. We are also happy to take on students on training contracts. Today, we have already discussed trainee contracts for next spring with a few students.
Veikka Mustonen was also present at the fair, presenting the company’s activities and talking about his own application for an apprenticeship.
– I called Tuomo directly and after a short discussion I went for an interview. I also took a little holiday and actually started working yesterday. The apprenticeship was my first choice, says Veikka.
Tuomo Kyttälä agrees that a direct contact works well. Veikka Mustonen completed the Vocational Qualification in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology through an apprenticeship and graduated from Samiedu Vocational College in December 2024.
According to Tiina Mehtonen, CEO of Sami-Palvelut Oy, the Recruitment Fair is the place where work and people really find each other.
– Today’s Recruitment Fair has exceeded all expectations and received great feedback. Almost 60 exhibitors and several hundred jobseekers have already visited the fair in the first three hours.
The Recruitment Fair is also an important pedagogical tool. It gives students a supervised opportunity to meet employers and apply for jobs. It also makes many people aware of how many employers there really are in the Savonlinna region, and the wide range of employment opportunities available.
